I. JD TRANSFER UPDATE

The Dean is proposing to invoke her discretion in order to allow all current 1st and 2nd year graduate-entry LLB students the option of transferring into the JD next year. The Faculty does not anticipate any obstacles to this proposal, which will be noted at the Graduate Studies Committee, and at Academic Board meetings in August. The Faculty will provide students with further information as this process advances.

II. LAW REVUE 2010 - 'HOW TO LOSE VOTES & AGGRAVATE PEOPLE'

August 18-21 (Week 4)

Tickets on sale outside Law School between 12-2

Access: $15 Conc: $18 Full: $20

Sydney Uni Law Revues represent a tradition stretching back to the mists of antiquity (the 60's). A tradition of big dance numbers, witty and biting satire and less witty and biting pun jokes. A tradition of small amounts of nudity that is never adequately justified. A tradition of bright young things with bursting creativity performing on stage...before selling out and becoming corporate lawyers. If you plan to see only one Sydney Uni Law Revue this year, by definition it has to be this one.

B. Internship at the NSW Law Reform Commission

The NSW Law Reform Commission invites law students entering their final year in 2011 to apply for legal internships to work alongside Commission members and legal staff during the summer university vacation, 2010-2011.

Interns work as volunteers on a full-time basis. The Commission does not provide any remuneration or financial assistance to interns. While not financially remunerated, an internship at the Law Reform Commission provides an opportunity to work closely with the Commissioners and law reform staff and contribute directly to the development of proposals for law reform. Depending on the reference this could mean undertaking research, contributing to drafting consultation documents, assisting with consultation processes, or helping draft reports. The Commission credits the contribution of interns in its published papers. The Commission seeks to provide a stimulating environment and a varied experience for interns.

Interns should be available to work for 8-12 weeks, commencing in December 2010 or January 2011, and are invited to indicate their availability in their application.

Information about the Commission's work and structure can be provided on our website: www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/lrc

Successful applicants will:

  1. have a strong academic record
  2. demonstrate well-developed legal research and writing skills
  3. demonstrate an ability to contribute to a team environment

Applications should contain a statement outlining how they meet these three criteria, together with a curriculum vitae and an academic record.

Applications should be forwarded to the Commission at lrc_intern@agd.nsw.gov.au.

If you have questions you can email us at the address above or call us on 8061 9270.

Closing date: Applications close 30 September 2010. Interviews for short-listed candidates will take place around October 2010.
