The many events, programs and activities of SULS would not be possible without its Committees (formerly known as Subcommittees or Subcoms), and the members who compose them. Appointed from all cohorts of the Law School, Committee members work closely with a specific portfolio and the wider SULS Organising Committee to implement their initiatives, forming the largest and most important members of the SULS team. A callout for volunteers occurs each year in early Semester 1, with a few Committees also being appointed in early Semester 2.

Students of any cohort and any Law program may apply for as many or as few committees as they would like; however, naturally, we would encourage you to focus only on those that you are truly interested in. All applicants should apply by email to the relevant portfolio, including in the email any information requested by the portfolio responsible for that Committee.
Applications will be accepted across a two-week period at the beginning of Semester 1, and interviews will usually be given on a rolling basis across that time. Applications will then be decided after the close of applications, with applicants notified as soon as possible after that date. While each committee has its own application criteria, as detailed below, the following four qualities are generally sought after:
A genuine passion for the work of the committee;
Relevant skills;
Relevant experience; and
A desire to get involved in SULS
However, while experience and knowledge of SULS are useful, please do not let an absence of such things deter you from applying. Committees are a great way to involve yourself with SULS for the first time, and the Executive Members are well aware of this! Passion is truly the most important quality to have!
